Glossary of Terms Used in the Drexyqalon System
This glossary defines the vocabulary used across the Drexyqalon interface and its supporting documentation. Understanding these terms will help you navigate the system more effectively and interpret what the interface is showing you.
Key terms explained
- Record
- A single unit of information held within the Drexyqalon system. A record may consist of text, structured data, or a combination of both, depending on what was submitted during the enquiry process. Records are the fundamental items that the system arranges and classifies. Each record has associated metadata that helps determine where it appears in the interface hierarchy and which categories it belongs to.
- Arrangement
- The process by which records are assigned positions within the system's hierarchy. Arrangement is determined by the content and metadata of each record and is maintained consistently across sessions. A well-arranged collection is one where related records appear near one another and where the overall structure reflects meaningful groupings rather than arbitrary ordering. Arrangement is handled automatically by the system.
- Classification
- The assignment of one or more category labels to a record. Classification allows records to be retrieved by type, subject, or other criteria without requiring the user to know exactly where in the hierarchy a record sits. A record can belong to multiple categories simultaneously. Classification is based on the information present in the record at the time it enters the system.
- Category
- A named group used to collect records that share a common characteristic. Categories are defined at the system level and are not created by individual users. The categories available to a particular user depend on the scope of their access request. Not every category will contain records for every user.
- Hierarchy
- The organisational structure within which records are arranged. The hierarchy is a system of levels that reflects the relationships between different areas of content. Higher-level entries in the hierarchy represent broader topics, while lower-level entries represent more specific material. Navigating the hierarchy allows users to move from general subject areas to more detailed records.
- Metadata
- Descriptive information associated with a record that is not necessarily part of its main content. Metadata typically includes details such as the record type, the date on which it was ingested, and any labels applied during the classification process. Metadata supports the arrangement and filtering functions by providing consistent reference points that the system can use when organising records.
- Ingestion
- The process by which a record enters the Drexyqalon system. When information is submitted as part of an enquiry or associated with a user account, it passes through the ingestion process, during which its metadata is extracted, its classification is determined, and its position in the hierarchy is assigned. Ingestion happens before a record becomes visible in the review interface.
- Enquiry
- A request submitted through the Enquire page by a user who wishes to access the interface or ask a question about the platform. An enquiry includes a request type, a description of what the user is looking for, and contact details for the response. Enquiries are reviewed by the support team, who determine whether the request is within scope and advise on what records are available.
- Access request
- A specific type of enquiry in which the user is asking to be granted access to the review interface. Access requests are reviewed in the same way as other enquiries, but they also require the support team to confirm that the records associated with the request are available and that the scope of the request has been clearly defined. Access is not automatic following submission of a request.
- Review view
- The part of the Drexyqalon interface where users can examine arranged and classified records. The review view presents records in a standardised layout, with category labels, headings, and formatted content. It is a read-oriented interface: users can navigate and examine records, but cannot edit them directly. The review view reflects the state of records as they exist in the system at the time of the session.
- Scope
- The set of categories and record types that are accessible for a particular enquiry or user session. Scope is determined by the nature of the access request and the records available within the system. Records or categories outside the defined scope of a request are not made visible through the interface for that session. If a user needs records outside their current scope, a further enquiry can be submitted.
- Support team
- The team at Drexyqalon Information Services Ltd. that reviews enquiries, processes access requests, and responds to user questions. The support team can be reached by email at [email protected] or by telephone at +1 (613) 555-0184. They are the primary point of contact for matters that cannot be resolved through the interface itself.
- Reference index
- A navigable list of the categories and record types available within the Drexyqalon system. The reference index allows users to understand the scope of the platform before submitting an enquiry, making it easier to assess whether the information they are looking for is likely to be available. The index is updated as the system's category structure changes.
